Israeli troops have crossed into southern Lebanon to “remove threats and to deal with Hezbollah strongholds,” an Israeli security official said.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity under the ground rules of a briefing, said Israeli troops are carrying out “limited and localized targeted raids” within walking distance of the border.
A Lebanese military official, however, told the Washington Post that Israeli forces have not yet crossed into Lebanese territory.
About a million people have been displaced across Lebanon amid the ongoing Israeli attacks, Prime Minister Najib Mikati said, adding that the nation “is facing one of the most dangerous stages in its history.”
