FBI Announces Investigation into IndyMac Bancorp and Countrywide

The Federal Bureau of Investigation today announced that they are launching an investigation into the now-defunct IndyMac Bancorp and Countrywide, both failed mortgage banks. They FBI said that it will be investigating possible fraud in the issuance of risky mortgage products.

The FBI is presently investigating 21 companies that are associated with the present mortgage crisis.
